Orange Class 20-21

 This week in Maths we have been learning all about the mathematics term, 'subtraction'. We discussed the different words we could you to represent subtraction. We then used children to model some subtraction questions. For example 6 - 2 = . Six children were asked to come to the front, another child checked that there were six children, we then subtracted two children. The children sat down. We then had our answer. The answer is how many children are still standing up. The children then performed some subtraction questions using counters.  In English, the children have been writing their character description up in near after working through them with an adult considering how they can be improved. The children also drew some pictures to accompany their work.  We have continued rehearsing for the nativity. We are very excited because a new stage has arrived for us to use! In English this week we have learnt what adjectives are and how to use them within our writing. We have created character descriptions using adjectives for 2 children in the book 'The Gingerbread Man'. The children then inputted their adjectives into sentences, ensuring they used capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Some children chose to extend their learning by adding the conjunction 'and' or 'because'. I was exceptionally proud of the written work the children produced, they should be extremely proud of themselves.  In Maths this week we have been focusing our learning around multiples of 2, 5 and 10. We have done lots of counting in order to embed our knowledge of this. Our hand prints represented 5's and our pairs of shoes helped us to count in 2's. As a class we are finding counting in 2's the trickiest therefore practicing this at home with be hugely beneficial.  We have been continuing to rehearse for the Christmas nativity this wee...

 In English this week we have been working on our story map of 'The Gingerbread Man', the children carefully considering how to represent the story and recognise the progression of the story.  We have continued our Talk for Writing too.  In Maths we have been learning to add one and two digit numbers together. We have been learning how to accurately use base 10 in order to calculate the answers. Year 1 have also been introduced to word problems. We have begun learning how to unpick these and identify the key factors.  This morning the children were excited to find some ice in the outside area this morning!
