Week beginning - Monday 10th May 2021

In Maths last week we focused our learning around money. The children learnt the value of coins and notes and worked hard to comparatively discuss their values. New knowledge was learnt when the children used less than and greater than symbols to discuss money. An opportunity to apply their knowledge of money was given with the implementation of a classroom shop.

Last week we planned our information posters. The children considered an introduction which provided a general description and then two more specific paragraphs of information. We sorted some facts about Tom Moore into three categories.

More money!

The children began by making predictions around our big question following partners discussions. We talked about the predictions that had been made in detail. Following this I showed the children the equipment available for us to use in order to undergo an experiment. Following some small group discussions and opportunities to feedback to the whole class, it was decided that the hoops would be arranged with one label in each. We would then arrange the items according to whether they were living, dead or never been alive. By undertaking the experiment we were able to answer our big question. The children then worked in small groups to identify and classify pictures of their own into groups. To extend their learning, the children used post-it notes to draw/write examples of their own. At the end of the lesson we verbally concluded an answer to our big question. The children now know that not all things are either living or dead because some have never been alive

We used the Forest School area to act out some scenarios regarding conflict between friends and family. The children got into their roles well and considered solutions to their problems.

More money!
